Operating across Alaska, AFN provides essential services that strengthen Native communities through strategic engagement with federal, state, and local government entities. As a membership-driven organization, AFN represents 176 federally recognized tribes, 143 village corporations, 11 regional corporations, and 11 regional nonprofit and tribal consortiums that contract and compact to run federal and state programs throughout the state. The organization specializes in government relations, leveraging its extensive network and expertise to advocate for policies that protect Alaska Native rights, lands, and economic interests. AFN's professional team works directly with elected officials and administration representatives to ensure Alaska Native voices are heard on critical policy matters. The organization maintains active involvement in legislative advocacy, litigation support, and subsistence rights protection. AFN also facilitates crucial training and technical assistance programs that build capacity within Native organizations, enabling them to effectively manage complex projects and programs. With governance through an elected 38-member board, AFN ensures democratic representation of its diverse membership across all Alaska Native regions.
