About Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association

Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association (ANFCA) is the Provincial-Territorial Association supporting 21 member Friendship Centres across Alberta, based in Edmonton, AB. Since 1970, ANFCA has been the backbone of urban Indigenous service delivery, coordinating comprehensive program and service initiatives that engage with and improve the quality of life for Indigenous peoples living off-reserve and off-settlement throughout the province.

ANFCA delivers culturally grounded support across multiple service areas, working with member Friendship Centres to provide essential assistance including housing referrals, employment support, health guidance, educational resources, and community development programming. The organization facilitates over 700,000 documented points of service annually through its network of member centres, serving urban, rural, and remote communities across Alberta.

The association's work is structured around creating safe, welcoming, status-blind urban hubs where Indigenous cultural teachings, values, and identity are integrated into all program structures. ANFCA provides strategic advocacy, administrative support, and collaborative partnership opportunities for member Friendship Centres, ensuring their voices and community needs guide organizational priorities. The organization maintains strong national and provincial partnerships while respecting the autonomy of each member centre.

ANFCA's service delivery and strategic direction are guided by its 5-year Strategic Plan, the Truth and Reconciliation 94 Calls to Action, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). Through its Provincial Committees, ANFCA engages Friendship Centre leaders and community advocates to strengthen the foundation of the Friendship Centre Movement and build sustainable support systems for urban Indigenous communities across Alberta.
