National Indian Education Association

The National Indian Education Association (NIEA), based in Washington, DC, is the premier national organization dedicated to advancing comprehensive, culture-based educational opportunities for American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. Since its founding in 1969 by Native educators, NIEA has established itself as a vital advocate for improved educational outcomes and policy development at local, state, and federal levels.

NIEA's core services include convening educators and advocates through its flagship annual convention, which serves as a collaborative forum for sharing innovative ideas and developing strategies to improve schools and educational experiences for Native children. The organization works to promote educational sovereignty while supporting the continued use of traditional knowledge and languages within learning environments.
