About Native American Indian Association of Tennessee

The Native American Indian Association of Tennessee (NAIA) is a comprehensive services agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for Native American Indians throughout Nashville and Tennessee. As a tax-exempt non-profit organization established in 1980, NAIA operates under section 501(c)3 of the federal Internal Revenue Code and serves as the primary advocate for the state's Native American population. With over four decades of experience, NAIA addresses critical gaps in services and representation for Native American Indians in Tennessee, where the absence of reservations has historically resulted in limited state and federal recognition and support for this community. NAIA operates on foundational principles of self-determination and self-reliance, empowering Native American Indians to take control of their own futures and community development. As the only statewide non-profit organization governed by an all-Indian Executive Board of Directors elected directly by membership, NAIA ensures authentic representation and culturally competent service delivery. The organization represents the interests and concerns of more than 30,000 Native American Indian residents across Tennessee, advocating for their rights and wellbeing at all levels. NAIA is committed to serving all Native American Indians regardless of sex, tribal affiliation, or background, recognizing the diversity within the Native American community. By filling the critical service void created by Tennessee's unique geographic and political status, NAIA provides essential resources, advocacy, and support to help Native American Indians thrive in Nashville and communities throughout the state.
