About Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake

The Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake (UICSL) provides comprehensive healthcare and social services specifically designed for American Indian and Alaska Native communities in Salt Lake City, UT and the surrounding Wasatch-front region. Since its founding in 1974, the organization has evolved to directly deliver culturally competent medical care, behavioral health services, and community health support to over 14,500 individuals from federally recognized tribes. The center offers limited primary care services, preventative health screenings, behavioral health care, and social services delivered through a holistic, responsive approach that respects Native cultural values. With two clinic locations serving Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Tooele counties, UICSL also extends services to members from Colorado, Nevada, Idaho, and Wyoming where access to specialized urban Indian health services is limited. Approximately 70 percent of the organization's staff are enrolled tribal members, ensuring that clinical expertise is paired with deep cultural understanding. UICSL is predominantly funded through Federal and State grants and contracts, private foundations, and individual donations, allowing them to maintain accessible, affordable healthcare for all community members regardless of socioeconomic status, including those experiencing homelessness and members of the LGBTQIA2S community.
